This characterful new build Georgian style country house is set in the heart of West Sussex surrounded by several acres of beautifully landscaped gardens.

The Brief

This substantial property was to create a feeling of warmth and welcome to guests and family members. Furnishings were to be relaxed and elegant with contemporary fabrics mixing with classic antiques throughout.

"They were upsizing to create a substantial home to accommodate their large family with children and grandchildren. This was all about welcoming everyone to the house to gather together and stay over. Comfort was also key for themselves, particularly in the furniture, they spent a lot of time trying various seat sizes and fillings at George Smith which was very individual to each of them and the fabrics and finishes were designed to be family friendly and relaxed, whilst looking beautiful." - Emma Hooton.

What were the key considerations when choosing the furniture?

"Fillings and seat depth in particular for different heights was crucial, we had one sofa made shallower than the other to accommodate them both differently."

"The furniture was to be classic with longevity - hence GS, the fabrics were chosen to work with buttoning on the ottomans and for softness on the sofas. The clients were open to very decorative trims, bullion fringes and layered textiles on cushions for the large furniture pieces which was really fun." - Emma Hooton.

The Designer

Studio Hooton is a London-based interior design company specialising in full-house residential projects. The team is based across studios in Mayfair, Hampshire and the Cotswolds.

Founded by Emma Hooton, the studio reflects her architectural eye and considered design philosophy. After graduating from the prestigious KLC School of Design, Emma refined her connections and knowledge working alongside renowned designer Hugh Leslie in Kensington, before establishing her own studio more than 15 years ago. Today, that foundation continues to inform her approach: creativity and commercial intelligence work hand in hand across all the studio’s projects.
