What Can Be Made For Outdoor?
All George Smith pieces can be adapted for outdoor use, except for those featuring deep buttoning. Our production process replaces all internal components with synthetic, weather-resistant materials to ensure long-lasting performance. Outdoor orders take 6–8 weeks.
Our outdoor furniture is crafted with five essential principles in mind to ensure longevity and style:
1. The frames are coated in a protective finish and made from Iroko Wood, which is robust and resilient, offering strength and stability.
2. Galvanised springs are used to prevent rusting, and propylene webbing, which is water and UV-resistant, helps water escape.
3. Weatherproof hardware is used on all outdoor pieces of furniture to avoid rusting.
4. Non-mould-forming cushions that don’t retain water are incorporated in the design to keep the interiors fresh, and ensure water does not linger in the furniture.
5. Don’ forget about your protective covers that are also available.
When the design for Soho House New York was underway, it was important to extend the comfort of the indoor George Smith furniture to the outdoor terrace, without compromising quality, comfort or aesthetic.
Our project development department worked on several prototypes of different weather resistant materials. The material formula we use today is based on the results from that original weather test, and we are proud to see the original outdoor furniture from Soho House New York is still in use a decade later.
