    Celebrating 10 years of creative partnership, George Smith and Commune Design unveil The Muffin collection, blending art deco charm with modern flair.

    Drawing inspiration from French Interior Designer Jean Michel-Frank, this collection encapsulates a spirit of playful elegance. Available in a sofa, armchair, chaise, and ottoman form; voluminous in geometry, and transcending any prescribed notions or style. Designed to be versatile, living in harmony with both contemporary furniture, vintage and antiques of all periods and styles.

    “The Muffin Collection was born from a desire to blend rounded Art Deco and streamlined shapes with a more current profile. We were inspired by Jean-Michel Frank and Jean Royere, as well as American furniture of the 1940s. The Muffin collection is meant to have a spirit of playful elegance, yet you can find its DNA somewhere between our Turkish and Channeled collections; it’s something that was always waiting to be explored.”

The Muffin Sofa

    The Muffin sofa, is a playful embodiment of elegance and comfort, boasting a wonderfully voluminous silhouette and inviting curves that will instantly catch your eye. Wide rounded armrests and a low seat are reminiscent of traditional Turkish seating, encouraging you to kick back and lose yourself in a cosy embrace.

    The design of the Muffin sofa draws inspiration from Jean Royère’s iconic “Polar Bear” sofa. Royère’s work marked a shift in post-war interior design, embracing a more organic, comfortable, and human-centred aesthetic, in contrast to the traditional and austere styles of the time. You can see this rich history reflected in the Muffin sofa’s design.
