Under the cover of our best-selling collection, the largest team of master upholsterers in the UK have spent decades refining their craft.

From Timber To Frame

    In our factory, the story of every Signature piece begins long before a stitch is sewn or a cushion is filled. It starts with the timber.

    Hardwoods that are strong, stable and sustainably sourced have been carefully selected. Ash and Utile are chosen for the external show wood, prized for their smooth grain and ability to take on rich stains that will deepen and mellow with time.

    From here, the frame is built. Hand-jointed by our master craftspeople, laying the foundation for furniture that will last for generations.

The Heart Of Comfort

    Once the frame is complete, the rhythm of upholstery begins. Wide bands of interwoven jute webbing are stretched and secured, ready to hold the heavy steel coiled springs. Each spring is tied into place by hand, creating a network of support that distributes weight evenly and ensures enduring comfort.


    The layering of comfort follows. A strong layer of hessian is hand-sewn into the springs and fixed to the frame, completing the suspension and preventing the fillings from dropping through. Horsehair, the primary stuffing material, is then laid on top of the hessian, forming a resilient cushioning layer before being topped with needled cotton for additional softness.

    Seat cushions are filled by a machine with a balanced mixture of down and feathers, completing the luxurious feel. Want to find your perfect seat?

Fabric Application

    The last detail is the final fabric cover, expertly cut to the correct pattern and hand-stitched into position.

    Each piece carries with it the story of the hands that made it, designed to bring comfort, beauty and character to any interior, and to be cherished for a lifetime.
